TV Producer

TV productions are a complex operation that involves hundreds of professionals from different fields. The set has actors, lighting technicians, cameramen, extras, directors, and producers. It is the LA TV producer's job to ensure everything runs smoothly. It is also the producer's responsibility to communicate with different team members and ensure everyone is on the same page.

TV production has become a far more important job in recent years thanks to the popularity of the medium. Streaming platforms are always on the hunt for new material. As an actor, I have ample experience with this format and have developed a keen interest in production as well.

TV Producer

Being a TV producer requires patience, good communication skills, and the ability to coordinate different aspects of the process. A producer handles everything from gaining financial resources to the final edit. They oversee every aspect of the process carefully to ensure the finished product is suitable for the target audience. Production happens in three stages and they are:

  • Pre-Production – As TV producers, we make sure all the ingredients are in order. We make sure the writers have the script ready, the casting directors have recruited actors for all roles, and all technicians are familiar with their tasks. Pre-production is the most important aspect of the process because it ensures the project goes smoothly. A good producer will make sure everything is in place and the team is ready for the shoot.

  • Production – Production is the active aspect of this process. Actors act, cameramen take video, lighting techs ensure the studio is well-lit according to the script, etc. It takes time, effort, and collaboration to get everything right. As a producer, it is my job to oversee the process and ensure everyone is doing their job correctly.

  • Post-Production – The post-production process is time-consuming but important. This is where editors come into tweak footage, identify scenes that need to be shot again, and ensure the final video is ready for the audience. Sound editors and music producers make sure the background score and ambient noise are present but not distracting. No TV show is ready for broadcast unless it goes through a thorough editing process.

As a TV producer, I understand this process well and know how to keep track of all influential factors. I have worked on a few successful projects and learned from those experiences. I am also a full-time actor and understand what kind of direction other actors need to deliver their best work.

As a person who has been on both sides of the equation, I can ensure the project runs smoothly. Working on a wide range of jobs has given me the required communication skills and helped me learn how to coordinate teams.
